Just because you don't respond to emergencies doesn't mean you won't find yourself in an emergency situation. According to the American Heart Association, there are approximately 375,000 Sudden Cardiac Arrests (SCA) each year in the United States. Often times, these events happen without warning. Delayed response, limited resources, and lack of bystander-initiated CPR and prompt application of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) lead to poor outcomes. Often times, the survival rate is less than 10 percent.
Although CPR certification may not be required where you work, it only makes sense to learn the life-saving skills in case your find yourself alone with a victim of SCA. The majority of SCA occur in the home.
Depending on the state you live in and your line of work, you may or may not be required to learn CPR.
