Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is a life-threatening emergency that occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating. SCA leads to death in minutes if the person does not get help right away. SCA can occur anytime, anywhere, and without warning. Survival depends on the delivery of bystander-initiated CPR as soon as possible.
In less than three hours, learn how to recognize an emergency, call for help and deliver high-quality CPR.
Properly administered CPR, combined with the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), can double and even triple a person's chance of surviving a SCA.
The risk of disease transmission is very low when performing CPR. The use of gloves and barrier devices (for breathing) nearly eliminates the risk of disease transmission. Hands-only CPR is a great way of delivering high-quality CPR without the need for rescue breaths to teens and adults that you witness collapse.
Provided you perform only the skills you were taught and to the best of your ability, you will be protected by Good Samaritan legislation, available in all 50 states.
